Although brilliant Perry Mars was quiet and unassuming

Dear Editor,

It is sad to learn of the killing of Professor Perry Mars who according to media reports died at the hands of bandits at his Prashad Nagar residence.

I happened to know Dr Mars during my student days at the University of Guyana and I have to say I was greatly impressed by his teaching and research abilities. He wrote several books and articles some of which were published in Transition, a publication by the Institute of Development Studies, University of Guyana.

Despite his academic brilliance, he remained quiet and unassuming throughout his life. Dr Mars has certainly made his contribution to scholarship and academia. He will undoubtedly be missed, especially by the academic community.

My condolences are extended to his bereaved wife,  family and friends.

Yours faithfully,

Hydar Ally
