Crater on Railway Embankment is a hazard

Dear Editor,

I wish to bring to your attention the development of a terrible crater just obliquely behind my house, going west on what was the former railway embankment line.  It is located just after the junction beyond Conversation Tree, going east towards the Arthur Chung Conference Hall at Liliendaal.

The pit has developed gradually without anyone having done or taken any remedial action to prevent the situation.  At intervals of about every five minutes, some unwary victim collides with the crater, giving rise to a most alarming crashing sound. I think many vehicles including government vehicles have been affected by this crater which was probably caused by the heavy-duty dragline that usually clears the trenches during the rainy season.

I think that the authorities should lend a hand to fill up the crater before the jubilee celebrations. This road is a frequently used route and is usually traversed by university-bound people, visitors, tourists and folks going to work or home.

I just thought that I would do some selfless service by informing the civil engineering departments about the situation since it has been this way for some months now, if not longer.

Yours faithfully,

Rajesh Geer
