It is not insignificant that three of the top cricket countries, Australia, South Africa and India, have decided to grace the shores of the Caribbean during the months of June, July and August, a period during which international cricket is usually not played in the region, to play fifty overs and Test cricket.
Since the West Indies is close to the bottom of the ranking in those forms of the game, and since cricketers from the region are not contractually obligated to play out of the region during those three months, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, it is fair to say that those countries appear to be taking some rather positive steps to aid the region`s cricket.
It would seem therefore good and proper, indeed obligatory on the part of the West Indies, to demonstrate its gratitude by trying to make these series a great success.
I cannot think of better ways of achieving that objective than by making herculean efforts to market the games to the best of their ability, to select the best players, and to begin preparations as early as possible. It is notable that the Indians have selected their squad already, although their series does not begin until July.
Can we please show some signs of life, including for the Tests.
