Port Mourant Jaguars wins B/ce volleyball competition

The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) kicked off its 2016 season Saturday with the Ashwell “Pumpkin” Mohabir one-day competition at the Blairmont No2 ground, West Bank Berbice.

The competition, for teams in Berbice, was won by Port Mourant Jaguars who defeated Port Mourant Training Centre NO1 team 30-27 in the final.

Port Mourant Training Centre No two squad defeated Three Door strikers of D’Edward for third place.

Seven teams participated in the `C’ category including junior and female teams.

The winning Jaguars team received a trophy and an incentive while PMTC 1 and PMTC 2 received trophies for placing second and third respectively.

Satesh Seenauth of Port Mourant Jaguars was declared the best setter while Surendra Moti Persaud of Port Mourant Jaguars won the best spiker and most valuable player awards.

In the junior male category the #53 Survivors took top honours from PMTC No3 15-14t. They received the first place trophy and an incentive. Andy Rohoman was adjudged the most valuable player.

Meanwhile, the first leg of the male and female U19 trials for the BVA selection was attended by 22 males and nine females. The trials were held at the Port Mourant Community centre on Sunday.

Tomorrow, a referees seminar/workshop will be held at the Port Mourant Community Centre beginning at 09:00 hrs.
