Grove Hi Tech retains title

Grove Hi-Tech successfully retained their U17 championship title downing Soesdyke Falcons 4-2 margin in the final of the Sunburst-sponsored East Bank Football Association’s U17 League Sunday at the Grove Community Centre ground.

In a rematch of the earlier group fixture which finished 4-1 in favour of the home side, Grove opened the scoring with a Nickoloi Matthews’ 13th minute conversion. It then became 2-0 in the 49th minute when Denzil Crawford netted.

Soesdyke Falcons scored from a penalty in the 55th minute through Tyrone Khan but any intentions of a Soesdyke comeback was extinguished as Alwyn Haynes and Matthews found the back of the net in the 73rd and 75th minutes respectively. Soesdyke scored a consolation goal three minutes onward through Tevin Marshall.

Grove took home the championship trophy and medals while Soesdyke collected the runners-up accolade.

In the third place playoff, Herstelling Raiders defeated Mocha Champs via walkover to claim the third place trophy.

Kevin Dalton of Grove was adjudged the highest goal scorer (nine conversions) and the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Usher Jones of the eventual winners was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper while the Fair Play Award went to Soesdyke Falcons who were adjudged the most disciplined team.
