Mekdeci crowned GSA Junior Skill Level champ after dominant display

Benjamin Mekdeci Sunday was crowned category A champion after defeating

Alec Melville in straight games 11/4, 12/10, 11/8 in the final match on Sunday as the curtain came down on the Kraft Toucan Industries Limited Junior Skill level tournament organized by the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel.

So dominant was Mekdeci that he only lost one game in the entire tournament.

Also winning Sunday in other category A  matches were the Wiltshire siblings, Larissa and Shomari who got the better of Taylor Fernandes and

Alex Cheeks.

Larissa Wiltshire had to call on all her reserves to secure a hard fought three games to one win over Fernandes winning 11/3, 9/11, 12/10, 11/5 while Shomari Wiltshire’s battle with Cheeks went the full five games before Wiltshire won 11/5, 10/12, 11/9, 3/11, 11/7.

In Category B Makeda Harding finished the tournament without conceding a game as she defeated Rebecca Low 11/7, 11/6, 11/4.

Samuel Ince-Carvahal was finally tested in his Category C match against Gianni Carpenter and was forced to pull out all the stops in his four game (7/11, 11/7, 12/10, 17/15) triumph while Michael Alphonso had a comfortable straight set victory against Demetrius De Abreu 11/8, 11/5, 11/4 and Lucas Jonas defeated Dominic Collins in four games 11/7, 8/11, 11/6, 11/8.

In Category D Jason Gomes earned a hard fought victory against the much improved Aliyah Persaud 10/12, 11/9, 11/3, 10/12, 11/5 while Kirsten Gomes defeated Madison Fernandes 11/9, 11/4, 11/7.

Abosaide Cadogan and Gianni Carpenter were adjudged the most improved female and male players respectively while Harding and Ince-Carvahal were adjudged the most outstanding female and male players respectively.
