GPF in come-from-behind win over Riddim Squad

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Riddim Squad 3-2 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer League continued on Sunday.

Played at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, the lawmen quickly fell behind as Amos Ramsay found the back of the net in the sixth minute with a strike into the lower right corner.

It went from bad to worse for the officers as Ramsay recorded his second in a similar manner in the 11th minute compliments of a conversion into the right side from within the area.

The comeback commenced four minutes onward in spectacular manner as Dwayne Charles scored, curling a right foot freekick from the left of the box over the head of the goalkeeper and into the right corner.

With the score remaining unchanged entering the halftime interval, GPF snatched the equaliser in the 50th minute as Junior Gordon netted an unchallenged header into the left side, after a right side cornerkick was spilt by the goalkeeper into his path.

Riddim Squad was presented with a great chance to retake the advantage as Ramsay, upon racing into the centre of the box following a through pass, was denied by the legs of the onrushing ?keeper.

The Mocha-based unit was made to pay for the miss as Kester Dundas netted in the 87th minute compliments of a right foot attempt from the right side of the box into the lower left corner, giving the ?keeper no chance.

GPF, on 13 points now occupy the fourth spot while Riddim Squad remains in second place with 14 points.

Meanwhile league leader Western Tigers dismantled Flamingo FC 5-0.

Randolph Wagner led the way with a double in the 61st and 82nd minutes while Joshua Britton, Jamal Pedro and Devon Forde scored in the 31st, 80th and 85th minutes respectively. With the result, Western Tigers move to 21 points while the losers remain on four points.
