Lanferman nets hat trick in Alpha win

Alpha United strengthened their grip on the third place in the GFF Stag Beer Elite League standings, dismantling the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a 5-0 score line on Sunday at the GFC ground.

Delon Lanferman recorded a hat-trick in the second, 48th and 90th+3 while the evergreen Anthony `Awo’ Abrams scored in the sixth and 30th minutes. Alpha United are now on  17 points while GFC remains on one point.

The contest was over before it began as Lanferman, upon pouncing on a poor pass from the left back, raced into the box and finished past the advancing goalkeeper following a one-on-one situation.

The wind was knocked out of GFC’s sails as Abrams added his name to scorer’s sheet, finishing over the advancing goalkeeper into the left corner after latching onto a through pass from Daniel Wilson.

Any hope of making a contest out of the fixture was dashed 15 minutes before the end of the half as Abrams recorded his second, slotting home the ball into the lower right corner after collecting a right side cross from Dwight Peters.

The rout continued three minutes into the second period as Lanferman grabbed his second with a right foot strike into the lower right hand corner and the icing on the cake was applied in the final moments as Lanferman placed his right foot shot into the lower left corner, after being in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Pele got their campaign back on the right track, dismissing Monedderlust 4-1. Gregory Richardson recorded a double in the 40th and 64th minutes while Colric Beckles and Konata Manning scored in the 38th and 53rd minutes respectively.

For the losers, an own goal in the 61st minute was their only conversion. Due to the win, Pele, on 10 points, remain in fifth position while the losers remain on six points and in sixth place.

Action in the event is set to continue tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader. In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Alpha United will tackle Monedderlust while the feature contest will pit Pele against Buxton United from 20:30hrs.

Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage will pocket an additional $1,000,000.

The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively faceoff in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.

If the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale rounds are the same team, they will earn the automatic CFU spot, with the second berth going to the team with the most accumulated points in both rounds non-inclusive of the eventual season champion.
