GOA to celebrate Olympic Day June 23

The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) will join the rest of the world in celebrating Olympic Day 2016 on June 23 and to commemorate the occasion, the GOA has invited affiliates to organize Olympic Day activities.

As customary, the highlight will be the Olympic Day Run/Walk/Jog.

This event will be held June 26 starting at the YMCA building, Thomas Lands at 06:00hrs.  All are invited to participate.

Participants who complete the 10km ‘Fun Run’ event will receive an Olympic Day t-shirt and a certificate signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee.

‘Fun Run’

The event, which caters for persons 10 years and older, commences at the YMCA building on Thomas Lands, proceed north on Camp Street, then east along Carifesta Avenue and the Rupert Craig Highway to turn in the vicinity of Access Road, Liliendaal. The course then continues west via Kitty Public Road, south into Vlissengen Road, then east into Thomas Road to finish at the point of origin.

10KM Team Run 

The team run starts at 06:30hrs outside the YMCA and will follow the same course as the ‘Fun Run’.

A team must consist of four males and two females, all of whom must complete the course in order to gain points.

Monetary prizes and trophies will be awarded for the 10km Team Run.

The first place team takes home $72,000 while the first and second runners up will pocket $48,000 and $32,000 respectively.

Note: Associations, Clubs etc. will not be permitted to field more than two teams.
