Hackett fires Santos to come-back win

A second half double from Ryan Hackett propelled Santos to a 2-1 come-from- behind win over Linden unit Botofago, when the Turbo Energy Drink sponsored Fruta Conquerors U19 Academy League continued on Wednesday.

The Georgetown unit fell behind in the 44th minute at the Tucville Community ground as Nealon Sansculotte scored with a right-foot shot which was parried into the back of the net by the custodian.

It was from this point that Hackett made his presence felt as he led the assault on the Botofago backline in search of the equalizer.

The former national u17 midfielder levelled proceedings in the 79th minute, skipping past his marker while cutting onto his favoured left foot, before hammering a power strike from outside the left of the box into the net.

The go-ahead winner was crafted one minute later in almost identical fashion. Known for his ability with the left leg, Hackett displayed his skill with the right foot as he unleashed a thunderous effort from the same location into the back of the net.

The physical nature of the contest resulted in both teams being reduced to 10 men as Job Caesar of Santos and Akeem Gordon were issued with red cards. Caesar was sent off for stomping at Gordon while the latter was given his marching orders for retaliating in a physical manner.

Due to the outcome, Santos secured the vital three points while the Lindeners made the long trek back to the mining town empty-handed.

In the earlier fixture, Black Pearl defeated Western Tigers 3-1. The tournament will continue at the same venue on Saturday with another doubleheader.

In the opening fixture at 14:00hrs, Uitvlugt Warriors tackle Order and Discipline while Eastville opposes Santos in the feature affair at 16:00hrs.
