Stag Beer Elite League Season II

Buxton United got their Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League campaign off to the perfect start, edging Monedderlust FC 3-2 on Friday at the Tucville Community ground.

Dillon Wright recorded a double in the 17th and 32nd minute, while Denver Dennis added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 65th minute. For the loser, Teron McDonald and Kenston Lindley scored in the 13th and 45th+1 minute.

With the result, the Buxtonians walked away with three points while the Berbice unit left empty handed.

Meanwhile, Victoria Kings earned their first point in the tournament, as they held a disappointing Fruta Conquerors unit to a 0-0 result.

The veteran East Coast of Demerara unit outplayed the home side despite coming off a 7-1 loss in the league opener against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).

The home side was expected to secure the win following their 3-0 result over Topp XX, but faltered badly against the physicality of the visitors, especially in the midfield third.

Chances were few and far between in the match, with Leon Richardson striking the right upright in the eighth minute for the hosts, with a glancing header from centre of the box, after rising high to meet a left side corner-kick.

The next good chance came in the 70th minute for Conquerors as a right foot effort from Jermin Junior from outside the area, was cleared off the goal-line by the defender with a header, after the goalkeeper was stranded outside his box following an earlier challenge.

For Victoria, Aubrey Gibson came close to breaking the deadlock, as his left side corner-kick was tipped over the bar in  desperation  by the custodian in the 56th minute.

The home side was also reduced to 10 players in the 79th minute as Reshawn Ritch received his second yellow card pulling down his opponent just outside the right of the penalty box.

The event resumes today with another doubleheader at the Camp Ayanganna ground from 18:00hrs.
