Food and drug dep’t issues label warning to importers

The Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) in a press release, has advised all importers of food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices that the exact name and complete address of the manufacturer and the country of origin must be stated in English Language on all labels.

According to the release, this is as according to the Laws of Guyana, Food and Drug Act Chapter 34:03 Part II Section 6 subsections 1&2 and the Food and Drug Regulations Part (II) regulation 18.

The GA-FDD stated in its release that it will be refusing entry to items which are inadequately labelled.

Also, consumers are advised to purchase items of Food, Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical Devices that are adequately labelled according to the Food and Drug Regulation 18, having a Brand Name, a Common Name, the Net Contents, List of Ingredients when necessary, Storage Instructions, Expiry Date, the Address of Manufacturer and the Country of Origin in English Language.
