Man gets four years jail for pistol, ammo charges

Charged with firearm and ammunition possession in 2016, a man was yesterday sentenced to four years in jail and fined $120,000, after changing his plea to guilty.

Rawle Franklin, who police alleged was in possession of a .40 Smith and Wesson pistol along with 14 matching rounds, made his way before Magistrate Judy Latchman who was expected to continue the trials in relation to the matters.

However, Franklin who had originally denied possession of the firearm and ammunition, had a sudden change of heart and changed his plea to guilty.

As a result the defendant was sentenced to four years imprisonment for each crime, and fined $60,000 on each charge.

It is expected that the sentences will run concurrently.

Police during a stop and search exercise conducted last October, found the items among three men, including Franklin.

Ranks noticed the three men acting suspiciously in the East La Penitence area and decided to conduct a search, subsequently unearthing the items.
