Cynthia Rutherford declared new AFC youth leader

Budding attorney-at-law and Office of the Prime Minister employee, Cynthia Rutherford has been declared the President of Youth For Change (YFC), the youth wing of the Alliance For Change (AFC).

A release from the AFC said that the YFC held its leadership elections as part of the AFC National Conference on Saturday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Primary School, West Bank Demerara, Region 3.

The release said that the voting for the YFC Presidency ended in a tie between Rutherford and Colin Haynes with 26 votes each. However, following discussions with newly elected AFC Leader Raphael Trotman, Haynes magnanimously agreed to withdraw, allowing Rutherford to assume the presidency.

Haynes has committed to focusing his energies on starting a YFC Diaspora Chapter, the release added.

Juaretha Fernandes (28 votes) won the Vice Presidency over Cavern Hinds (23 votes).

Devin Sears (32 votes) won the elections for General Secretary over Breeanka West (19 votes) while Shannon Naipaul (28 votes) edged out Tiffany Marshall (24 votes) for the position of Treasurer.

The Returning Officer for the YFC elections was Michael Leonard.
