No rapid changes for a better life

Dear Editor,

After being on the opposition side for some 23 odd years, one would have assumed that after taking over leadership of Guyana, the new government would ensure rapid changes for a better life for all, but sadly we are daily being forced into hardship.

I would have expected better ideas of governance and there would be job creation, but instead industries are being forced to downsize and close, and people’s only means of earning legal money to maintain their families is being taken away without a solution, only promises.

When Brigadier (ret’d) David Granger started appointing ex-military officials, many were concerned, but I was of the belief that they were equipped with the knowledge to deal with many issues affecting Guyana, especially our embarrassing crime statistics and the alarming road fatalities that continue to haunt us daily. Instead they are being paid large salaries, and can’t come up with any meaningful ideas to help Guyana.

Editor the latest parking fiasco is a typical example of bullyism and incompetence. A police officer could drive their vehicle and park it anywhere that has a parking meter without paying.

All they have to do is either put on their police hat on the dashboard of the vehicle and they are okay. I’ve seen that a lot in Guyana; even when they are driving their heavily tinted vehicles, they would either display their uniform hat or ID card.

Yours faithfully,

Sahadeo Bates
