Covent Garden pensioner found dead in home

A pensioner was last night discovered dead at his Covent Garden home by his relatives, but there was no clear indication of how he died.

The body of Byron Dixion,75, a carpenter, of Lot 10, First Street Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, was found lying in his living room chair by his relatives around 6:30 pm. They made the discovery when they were prompted to look for him after he hadn’t been seen for several days. According to his nephew, Fitzroy Samuels, his uncle who lives alone was unheard from for a while. He said that this was strange and had worried a few family members.

Samuels said friends and other relatives tried calling his uncle, but his phones went unanswered. They also went to his home earlier in the day and called for him but received no answer. The nephew said that another set of relatives who became more concerned went to the house to locate him and that was when they found Dixion, dead.

Samuels told Stabroek News that Dixion spoke to his mother about two days ago, and he was also seen by the neighbours around that time. The nephew said that according to friends his uncle was sick but he was not sure about that.

Dixion’s body was taken away by the Lyken Funeral Home and is awaiting a post mortem examination.
