Officials of the Govern-ment of Guyana were briefed yesterday by ExxonMobil on the “actual development” of the offshore Liza well and the plan to take it towards production by 2020.

Gathered yesterday at the Marriott Hotel, Kings-ton were: Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of State Joseph Harmon, Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman,

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo (centre in shirt-jac) along with other Ministers from the government and representatives from ExxonMobil.

Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona Broomes, Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin, Minister of Finance Winston Jordan, Minister of Agriculture Noel Holder and other Ministry officials.

“This morning is very important because we are having another one of our briefings on the development of one of our oil and gas (wells), but more particularly the Liza well where we know there has been a finding of petroleum and gas,” Trotman told the gathering, while explaining that the briefing by the ExxonMobil representatives is different since he believes that they came with good news about the actual development of the Liza resource and how they intend to take it towards production by 2020.

Additionally, Trotman explained that the team will also give updates on the new technologies and techniques that will be deployed.

“It is important as Guyanese, and particularly as policy makers that we know what the resource is, how much is going to be exploited, captured and developed, and very importantly as policy makers how we are going to use the resource for the benefit of all Guyanese,” he added.

He also stated that while the meeting is the beginning of a series of engagements, starting with the policy makers, it will extend to all the citizens of Guyana, in all ten regions, and even those from the diaspora around the world.

While the opposition members were not present at the beginning of the briefing, Trotman revealed that they would be arriving a couple hours later.

The press was not permitted to sit in on the briefing.
