First, we need to unite our country into one people

Dear Editor,

I read with interest a lengthy letter by Clement J Rohee MP entitled `The oil and gas industry will be at the centre of future foreign policy’ (SN, 01 February 2017) in which the gentleman makes a case for our future oil industry to be at the centre of our foreign policy.

I would like to offer an alternative view as I believe Clement J Rohee MP is wrong as I believe that his mind “deh too much pon de oil”.

Our future foreign policy will be based on uniting people from different countries.

As an example, has the President David Granger Administration thought of approaching the Surinamese offering to unite Guyana and Suriname into one country?

The time frame could be within 100 years. Should they not accept that 100 years time frame then it can be changed to within 1,000 years. Then, we make the same offer to Venezuela, etc. In doing it this way we would be looking to unite the people of the region and working towards that objective.

But, first, we need to unite our country into one people. I suspect that President David Granger also has this objective in mind.

Whether we use the Theory of Evolution or Creationism we will all have a common ancestor. So, we really are one people. We need to all come to terms with this in our own time and own way.

Yours faithfully
Sean Ori
