Courtney Benn secures $186m Harbour Bridge contract

Courtney Benn Contracting Services has secured a $186m contract for the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB).

According to the Ministry of the Presidency this is one of a number of contracts which were given the no-objection by Cabinet.

The contract to Courtney Benn entails the rehabilitation of 25 pontoons and the fabrication of 40 buoys and 40 pairs of connecting end post for the DHB. The contract value was hiked from $177m to $186m.

Meanwhile, SRK N’Gineering got the green light for a $94m contract for the provision of consultancy services for engineering designs and supervision of works for the rehabilitation of drainage and irrigation at Buxton, Ithaca and Triumph.

A contract for $83m was also cleared to the East Demerara Water Conservancy Board for the operation, security and monitoring of the East Demerara Water Conservancy Dam and the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority’s (NDIA)  excavators from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. It is unclear why this contract wasn’t awarded to a security company.

The Small Business Bureau has secured a US$321,725 contract for consultancy services to implement a skills training programme for at –risk youth for the Ministry of Public Security.

STP Investments has secured a $59m contract for the operation, servicing and monitoring of NDIA excavators, East Coast of Demerara.

It remains unclear when Cabinet will cease its no-objection function given the formation of the Public Procurement Commission.
