Kitty robber sentenced to three years for icepick attack

A Kitty man was on Thursday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of armed robbery.

Magistrate Renita Singh handed down the sentence to Jermaine Jeffrey, 23, of Pike Street, Kitty.

The charge against Jeffrey stated that on December 15th, 2017, while armed with an icepick, he robbed Yohance Smith of a cell phone, $1,400 cash and other items that were property of Smith as well as a cell phone, valued $46,000, which was the property of Keron Humphrey.

The case made out by the prosecution was that the defendant confronted Smith at Irving and Laluni streets, Queenstown and stabbed him several times before relieving him of the cash and cell phones. Smith raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens ran to his rescue and apprehended Jeffrey and handed him over to police.
