Couple injured after car hits back of their motorcycle

A husband and wife were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention last evening after their motorcycle was struck from behind on the Railway Embankment at Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Motiram Deonarine, 58, and his wife Bibi Deonarine, 56, of 65 Zoren Street, Better Hope, ECD, were on their motorcycle when a car that was allegedly speeding crashed into them.

According to the couple’s son Ricky (only name given), his parents were riding home when the car, PLL 2194, hit the motorcycle from the back.

From what he was told by eyewitnesses, the car stopped several feet away from the point of impact and his father pitched off the motorcycle, while his mother ended up on the car’s bonnet.

He added that the motorcycle’s rear wheel became stuck to the front of the car and it took more than five men to remove it.

It was pointed out by Ricky that persons at the scene were heard alleging the driver was racing with another car. As a result of the speeding, skids marks were evident on the road, eyewitnesses said at the hospital.

According to the couple’s son, his father sustained a broken leg, while his mother was crying out backache.
