Bandits attack supermarket owner, escape with cash

Two bandits pulled off a daring daylight robbery yesterday morning, invading a supermarket in Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara where they attacked the owner and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robbery which occurred around 9 am yesterday at Lucky Supermarket located at Lot 30 Meten-Meer-Zorg, was caught on surveillance cameras.

Commander of ‘D’ Division, Leslie James told Sunday Stabroek that as the police continue to follow several leads, they are pursuing two suspects.

During the ordeal which lasted for an estimated 15 minutes, proprietor of the supermarket, Ketong Wu, sustained a laceration to his head. He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where the wound was stitched, following which he was discharged.

Information reaching this newspaper revealed that Wu had just opened for business when the two men, one of whom was armed with an iron bar, attacked him demanding cash and valuables.

The bandits, according to reports, threatened Wu and dealt him a blow to his head with the iron bar before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Wu reportedly ran to his neighbour’s premises while the men fled the scene, boarding a minibus.

Yesterday’s incident was the third occasion that  Wu has was robbed.
