Lethem man granted $300,000 bail for alleged $1M theft

Accused of stealing $1 million in cash from a vehicle which he had borrowed, a man was yesterday granted bail by a city magistrate for the alleged theft.

John Caesar, was read a charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan which stated that on April 11 at Lethem, he stole $1,000,000, property of Hai Min Zhu.

Caesar, after being read the charge, denied the crime.

The court heard that the stolen funds had been left in the complainant’s car which was borrowed by Caesar. However, when the defendant returned the vehicle, the money was missing. It was further stated that $100,000 was found on Caesar.

Subsequent to hearing all that was said, the Chief Magistrate granted the defendant $300,000 bail and adjourned the matter to June 16, when it will be heard at the Lethem Magistrate’s court.
