Abrahamic religions and literal interpretation

Dear Editor,

I see that Abu Bakr has picked up Swami Aksharananda on his comment on the three Abrahamic religions. I take this opportunity to declare that I have studied the scriptures of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which all claim infallibility from the same God. And I can find no inconsistencies between those scriptures when taken literally in their context. The only differences I find are in the practices of people calling themselves Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

The literal interpretation is discouraged by clerics, who themselves did not make sufficient study, but who have to go and find their way in the world, which imposes its own values on them. The consequences for people like me are that interactions with such religious leaders have been reduced to the exchange of inconsequential pleasantries. Whenever serious religious issues arise they suddenly find that the time is too short. No appointment is ever made to settle matters.

Therefore intellectuals like Swami Aksharananda, and bright young people, find it difficult to take these religions seriously.

Yours faithfully,

Alfred Bhulai
