Jones’ absence from Islamic Games due to flight mix-up

Director of Sports, Christopher Jones yesterday told Stabroek Sports that his absence from the ongoing Islamic Solidarity games is a huge opportunity missed.

The director cited a flight ‘mix-up’ which interrupted his work schedule, as the reason for his absence.

President of Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Kalam Juman-Yassin had told reporters that Jones was scheduled to make the trip to 2017 Baku, Azerbaijan Games.

“The Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, will also be attending the games. I hope with him being there, he would be able to see how a major competition is being run and he may be able to make contacts,” Yassin said.

Jones, when contacted, said that it was unfortunate that he could not make the trip owing to reasons outside of his control.

“It was a great opportunity missed, I was scheduled to leave at 5:00 am Thursday [11th May] morning but that flight was rescheduled to five in the afternoon which threw me off,” Jones said. He, however assured that he is following the games keenly.
