Forger jailed over tax certificate, passport

A man will be spending the next 18 months in jail for forging a taxpayer certificate and a passport.

City magistrate Leron Daly handed down the sentence to Keith Willie, who pleaded to the two charges that were read against him yesterday.

It was alleged that Willie, between May 1st, 2017 and May 31st, 2017, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, conspired with others and forged a Guyana Revenue of Authority taxpayer’s certificate in the name of Ronald Amsterdam. The second charge stated that Willie forged a passport, number R0137060, in the name of Amsterdam, between the same dates.

The prosecution stated that the police, acting on information, arrested Willie and conduced a search on his home. During the search, several documents were found, including the passport and the tax certificate.

Although Willie was sentenced to 18 months in jail on each count, the sentences will run concurrently.
