Sand truck hours are designed to avoid traffic congestion

Dear Editor,

During the past week the Minister of Natural Resources said that steps would be taken in relation to the operations of sand pits, but when I heard the newscast I was really disappointed with the way the Minister explained the reason for taking those steps. Looking at the government’s actions immediately after taking over the leadership of Guyana, I immediately came to the conclusion that we had been greatly misled and that many of us would regret our actions. Today walking around and listening to the cries of people I couldn’t help but feel somewhat disgusted, because the government is still on the path of creating hardship for Guyanese, has destroyed its image and continues to feel its way around aimlessly.

Editor, the way the Minister elaborated on the matter of the hours the sand trucks go to the sand pits to get sand, he seemed to be implying that they were going to steal the sand or escape paying some sort of fee. The truth is that the sand trucks are trying their best to help ease the traffic congestion we are experiencing, and those are the hours best suited for them. It’s bad enough that the administration is pressuring us, but they should have some sort of decency and avoid staining other people in relation to their visionless acts.

Yours faithfully,

Sahadeo Bates
