A La Bonne Intention (LBI) cane harvester died yesterday afternoon when he fell overboard while fishing in a flooded trench.
Rajash Kachari, 36, of LBI, East Coast Demerara, a cane harvester attached to the Enmore Estate was in an old refrigerator fishing with his son around 5 pm, when it overturned.
Relatives told this newspaper at his LBI home that after the makeshift boat toppled, Kachari was apparently hit in the head and submerged.
“Somebody see them fall in and jump to save the lil boy,” a relative said, “but he [Kachari] never come up. And the trench de so deep that they couldn’t find him. By de time dey find he, he de already dead.”
Kachari leaves to mourn his wife and three young children.
