Lopsided wins for Plaisance Secondary and GTI

Plaisance Secondary will battle President’s College while Marian Academy will oppose Government Technical Institute (GTI) in the U19 boys semi-final of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) ‘Georgetown/East Coast Regionals’.

Plaisance Secondary defeated Tutorial high 63-32 Sunday in the quarter-finals of the tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Andrew Johnson scored 19 points while Nigel Bowen tallied a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds and Reuben Reid added 10 points and eight rebounds.

For Tutorial, Denzil Logan scored 15 points while Zion Gray netted six points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

In another encounter GTI humbled Adult Education 62-39.

Nickosie Allicock bagged 14 points and eight rebounds in the rout, whilst Shamar Huntley scored 14 points and seven rebounds and Richard Telford recorded a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

For Adult Education, Terrence Ardain scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds while Shamar Keiler added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Marian Academy took the last semi-final spot when they brushed aside Bishops’ High 59-21.

Timothy Thompson in a dominant display scored 25 points and pulled down 24 rebounds while Jahleel Young chipped in with 14 points and 19 rebounds and Jether Harris and Josiah Daniels added seven points each.

For Bishops’ High, Joshua Smith and Andre Somrah battled to seven and six points respectively.

President’s College edged St. Rose’s High 55-53 to take the last semi-final spot.

Anthon Fileen scored 29 points and had five steals while Akeem Crandon added 10 points and eight rebounds.

For St Rose’s High, Anthony Yansen scored 25 points and added seven rebounds and six steals while Kwesi Roberts scored 10 points and pulled in five rebounds.

In the girls division Marian Academy whipped St. Rose’s High 18-7 to clinch a spot in the final.

Jada Mohan was the main threat for the Carifesta Avenue unit with 13 points and seven steals.

For St Rose’s, Jamaica Blair scored four points and added four rebounds and four steals.

Marian Academy will play President’s College in the final Friday at the same venue from 16:30hrs. The tournament is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies Ltd and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
