DCC congratulates Nedd, Singh, Bookie, and Torrington on national selection

Executives of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Saturday, sent off four of their members who were selected for the national Under 17 team with new cricket gear and words of encouragement at a simple ceremony held at the Leading Edge Sports Store.

Left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd, who is set to captain the side, fast bowler Qumar Torrington and all-rounders Sachin Singh and Alphius Bookie, were told to represent their club and country with distinction even as they aim to make a mark for themselves.

”The president and executives along with the members, just want to use this opportunity to extend congratulations to you guys on your national Under-17 section,” said Lawrence Smith, the second vice-president of the club.

He added: “We expect that you guys will give of your all not only for your country, but for your club and yourselves. We urge you guys the very best both from your teammates here and abroad. Go and ensure that you represent us with the distinction,” Smith emphasized.

Three of the four players, with Bookie the lone exception, have represented the West Indies in 2016 during the Regional side’s tour to the United Kingdom.

The talented quartet are key players for Guyana in the West Indies Regional under-17 tournament which begins today in Trinidad and Tobago. The youngsters, as a gesture of the club’s appreciation, all received new gear. The Leading Edge Sports Store also chipped in with significant contributions which included bats, batting gloves and bags.
