$10,000 bail for mom on ‘fake rape’ charge

(Trinidad Express) A magistrates’ court employee charged with wasteful employment of the police after she allegedly made a false report that she was raped, appeared before a Princes Town magistrate yesterday.

Wendy Isahark, 45 of Lengua Village said she was not guilty of the charge that arose out of an incident in Princes Town last Tuesday.

Police claim Isahark alleged she was raped by a taxi driver, who gave a statement to investigator, which led to her arrest.

Isahark’s attorney Subhas Panday told magistrate Nalini Singh that his client was a public servant with a clean criminal record. He also told the court that she was of a fixed place of abode and was not a flight risk.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Mohammed made no objection to Isahark being placed on fresh bail.

The court telephone operator and mother of one was granted $10,000 own bail and ordered to return to court on August  24.
