St Angela’s ousted despite 6-0 defeat of Winfer Gardens

A new champion will be crowned in the seventh annual Courts Pee Wee football tournament after two-time defending champions St. Angela’s failed to progress to the elimination round, despite defeating Winfer Gardens 6-0 yesterday.

Requiring a victory at the Thirst park ground and a defeat for Marian Academy, the Thomas Street unit were dumped from the event after Marian Academy held eventual group winner Sophia to a 2-2 draw.

Omarie Nelson tallied a hat-trick in the 11th, 20th and 30th minute for the dethroned champs while Tyshawn James bagged a double in the 23rd and 26th minute. C’quan O’Neal added a second minute goal.

Meanwhile, Michael Alphonso and Bradley Walton scored in the eighth and 23rd minute respectively to ensure Marian Academy progress at the expense of St. Angela’s. For Sophia, David Weeks and Leonard King scored in the ninth and 28th minute respectively.

West Ruimveldt, Stella Maris, St. Ambrose, Plaisance, St. Pius and Tucville were among the teams that progressed to the round of the 16 stage.

West Ruimveldt edged St. Margaret’s 2-1 while Stella needled St. Stephen’s 1-0, St. Ambrose downed Smith Memorial 2-0 and Plaisance crushed J.E. Burnham 4-0 and squeaked past Parfait Harmony 1-0.

Also, St. Pius and Tucville battled to a 1-1 stalemate in a top-of-the-table clash. Below features the comprehensive list of the match-day results. The event resumes at the same venue with the round of 16 stage on Saturday.
