Team Yvette Bunbury, Bibi Hasan and Vonette Mayers secured contrasting wins, when the ‘We Believe Cup’ Women’s Futsal Championship, commenced on Wednesday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The tournament is being staged to promote Breast Cancer Awareness, with the competing teams named after cancer survivors.
Team Yvette Bunbury crushed Team Francine Leitch 3-0. Shameka Marcus bagged a double, while Temeca Cort scored once.
Meanwhile, Team Bibi Hasan squeaked past their counterparts from Devika Tinsarran 2-1. Lakeisha Pearson and Terryka Joseph were on target for the winners, while Iyana Rodgers scored for the loser.
Also, the Vonette Mayers unit downed the Ena Persaud outfit by an identical scoreline. Annalisa Johnson and Valerie Hunter scored in the victory. On target in the defeat was Johanna Archer.
In the final result, Team TJ edged Team Rajkumarie Harripersaud 2-1.
The tournament resumes today at the same venue with another round of group fixtures. Sponsors of the tournament include the National Sports Commission, Guyana Football Federation, the Guyana Cancer Foundation and the Alex Bunbury Sports and Academic Academy.
