Teen remanded over robbery

A teenage boy was yesterday remanded to prison on a robbery charge.

Akasi Primo, 17, heard that on March 16, at Georgetown, in company of another, he robbed Shameer Henry of $57,000.

After the charge was read by Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman, Primo entered a not guilty plea.

An objection to bail was made by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh, who noted that Primo and another, who is known as Kumar, pushed their hands into the complainant’s pocket and stole the money. Primo was later caught by police, who were in the area, while Kumar managed to escape.

Primo, a mason of Kaneville, told the court that he was beaten by police and was forced to sign something although he did not know what since he cannot read. He noted that he did not give a statement to the police.  Magistrate Latchman later remanded him and adjourned the matter until March 22, when statements are to be handed over.
