Soon-to-be father remanded over 63g of ganja

A soon-to-be father was yesterday charged with the possession of cannabis with the intent to traffic.

It is alleged that Cornell Dos Santos, a resident of West Ruimveldt, had in his possession 63 grammes of cannabis.

The police report stated that an officer approached Dos Santos in Albouys Street, Albouystown, and conducted a search and found a bag containing smaller Ziploc bags with leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis. He was then arrested and charged.

When brought before the court, Dos Santos pleaded not guilty and stated he was nowhere near the cannabis. He further stated that he went across a drain to urinate and his legs got wet and he bent to wipe his leg, which led to the officer searching the area where he was standing and finding the bag which contained the cannabis.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore denied his request for bail, remanded him to prison and adjourned the matter until November 8.
