Basketball team narrowly misses gold

Guyana secured a silver medal at the 2017 International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Lesser Antilles 3X3 Championships going down agonizingly to Martinique 9-8 in the final on Sunday in St Lucia.

Despite fielding an injured Jamal Gilkes, Guyana only lost the match in the dying seconds for their first defeat of the tournament.

The Guyanese earned their place in the final with a perfect 6-0 record in the preliminary matches, defeating Barbados 15-1, Curacao 15-2, Antigua and Barbuda 9-7, St Vincent and the Grenadines 12-4, Aruba 15-4 and Guadeloupe 12-9 in the semi-finals.
