Den Amstel Mash Football Championship

Uitvlugt Warriors and Eagles sealed their berths to the semi-final round today in the Den Amstel Mash Football Championship, following contrasting wins over Golden Warriors and Young Achievers, respectively, on Wednesday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

Uitvlugt humbled Golden Warriors 6-0 in a 70 minute contest, to set up a date with defending champion Pouderoyen at the same venue at 18:00hrs. The contest was over by the halftime interval, as Uitvlugt raced to a 4-0 lead, propelled by Jamal Harvey’s hat-trick.

Harvey opened the scoring in the seventh minute, volleying down the centre of the net, after latching onto a poorly headed clearance following a right side corner-kick.

The lead quickly increased, with Harvey recording his second two minutes later, as a flat shot from the left side went through the grasp of the goalkeeper, allowing the onrushing forward to tap into the empty net.

Trayon Bobb then made his presence felt in the 31st minute, lobbing a left foot attempt over the advancing goalkeeper into the left hand corner, from inside the right of the penalty area.

The first half rout was completed four minutes onward as, Harvey completed his hat-trick, rifling a powerful right foot effort from the penalty spot into the lower left corner, following a handball infraction.

Following the resumption of the contest, Daniel Floyd and Seon Bobb sealed the result, compliments of goals in the 40th and 54th minute, respectively.

On the other hand, Eagles earned the right to battle tourney hosts Den Amstel at 20:30hrs, after edging Young Achievers by a 2-0 scoreline. Following a scoreless first half, Orette Stephenson broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, stabbing into the lower left hand corner, from inside the six yard area. Adrian Adolph sealed the win in the 66th minute with a powerful shot down the centre of the net.

Pouderoyen and Den Amstel had sealed their respective berths to the semi-final stage following lopsided quarterfinal wins at the same venue on Friday March 3rd.The titlist crushed Stewartville by a 5-0 margin, while Den Amstel recorded the largest margin of victory to date, thumping Wales FC 13-0.
