AAG selects Williams, Bright for IAAF U18 c/ships in Kenya

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has selected two standout athletes to compete at the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) World U18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya which starts tomorrow.

The athletes are long jump queen, Chantoba Bright and quarter mile specialist, Daniel Williams. Both athletes, who excelled at the recent Senior National Championships, along with coach of the sojourn, Johnny Gravesande are from the Mining Town of Linden.

Bright has a career best leap of 6.30m which was recorded at the National Track and Field Centre on June 3 during her gold medal winning performance at the South American U-20 Championships. Williams’ personal best in the 400m event (48.24s) was also recorded at the championships in June.

Bright and Williams will both be aiming to finish on the podium in their respective events.

Notes: The IAAF World U18 Championships (formerly named the IAAF World Youth Champion-ships in Athletics up to November 2015) is a global athletics event comprising track and field events for competitors who are 17 or younger (youth). The event is organized by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It is held biennially. It was first held in 1999.

The World U18 Championships are not to be confused with the World U20 Championships, which are for athletes who are 19 years or under. The event concludes on Sunday. (Emmerson Campbell)
