PMTC1, GTCPM1 win senior, junior divisions

Port Mourant Training Centre1 (PMTC1) and the GuySuCo Training Centre Port Mourant1 won the senior and junior divisions of the Berbice Volleyball Association in collaboration with Kendall Union Sports Club (KUSC) Mark Henriques Memorial volleyball tournament Sunday at the KUCS ground, Number 19, Corentyne, Berbice.

The competition, for teams in Berbice, saw five teams PMTC1, PMTC2, Rollers of New Amsterdam, Port Mourant Jaguars and host KUSC participating in the senior male category.

PMTC1 played unbeaten in the round robin matches while PMTC 2 and Rollers were tied with wins and losses. Rollers, however, by virtue of their win over PMTC2 took the tie break and advanced to the final against the round robin winners PMTC1.

Action in the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) Mark Henriques Memorial volleyball tournament held Sunday at the Kendall Union Sports Club ground.

In the final, PMTC1 defeated Rollers 25-13, 25-18. Four teams, GTCPM1, GTCPM2, Corriverton Jets and KUSC, participated in the junior competition and in the preliminary round, GTCPM1 defeated KUSC while GTCPM2 defeated Jets to reach the final.

In the final, to be won by the first team to reach 30 points, GTCPM 1 defeated GTCPM 2 30-26 in a keenly contested affair.

At the end of the competition the winning PMTC1 team received the Mark Henriques Memorial trophy and cash incentives.

Rollers also received trophy and cash. Davendra Latchman of the PMTC1 was adjudged the MVP and was also rewarded.

The top teams in the junior category were also rewarded.

Prayers and one minute silence were observed before the start of the day’s competition in memory of Henriques.

The presentation of prizes was done by relatives of the deceased and President of the KUSC Albert Budhoo, BVA President Levi Nedd and other officials.

Budhoo thanked the BVA for partnering with them and congratulated the players for their good performances. He promised to seek assistance to have the competition held again.
