Men’s hockey team loses 2-5 to Canada in third place playoff

Guyana finished outside the medals in the Pan American Indoor Hockey Cup after the men’s team lost 2-5 to Canada in the third place playoff yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Jonathan Roberts registered a hat-trick against his familiar foe in what was the second win for the Canadians against the Guyanese [8-5 in the earlier group round.

Roberts scored in the eighth, 34th and 40th minute while Devohn Noronha and Gurtej Dhaliwal netted in the 18th and 29th minute respectively.

For Guyana, Robert France and Andrew Stewart scored in the first and 19th minute. Guyana had won a bronze medal in the 2014 edition in Uruguay.

Meanwhile, the Guyanese women went down to their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts 1-3 to finish the tournament in sixth position in their maiden campaign.

It was also the second loss for the locals to the Trinidadians following their 3-6 defeat in the round-robin stage.

Alanna Lewis, Arielle Williams and Blair Wynne scored for the winner in the 10th, 23rd and 39th minute respectively. For the Guyanese, Marzana Fiedtkou continued her scoring ways, netting in the 26th minute.
