An early morning fire yesterday ripped through a Triumph, East Coast Demerara house which had been home to a woman and her two daughters.

Quick action by the Guyana Fire Service prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.

The fire reportedly started around 7.30 am yesterday in the kitchen area of the Lot 106 Agriculture Road, Triumph, ECD single-flat house occupied by `Polly’ and her two daughters said to be three-years-old and five months.

While details surrounding the fire remained unknown up to last evening, neighbours related to Stabroek News that they noticed thick smoke coming from the house and they immediately raised an alarm.

However, by the time the Guyana Fire Service arrived the house had already been destroyed, they said. At the time of the fire, no one was at home.

Neighbours recalled last seeing `Polly’ leaving home on Thursday. They said she did not return up to yesterday morning.

An investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
