On Friday, the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) in collaboration with the University of Guyana (UG) concluded a five-day capacity building workshop for Health Sciences lecturers.
According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the exercise, which was held from August 6-10, focused on measurement and evaluation which aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the lecturers in setting examinations and grading test papers and scripts.
DPI spoke to some of the participants of the workshop.
Dr. Ronald Aaron, Director of the School of Medicine at the University of Guyana noted that “the workshop has been very useful and timely, especially since the school of medicine was re-accredited last year.” He said that over the course of the “next few years, the other departments in the faculty of Health Sciences are scheduled to undergo the accreditation exercise.”
Dr. Adebo Onohomo welcomed the workshop as “beneficial’ saying that she has “learnt better ways” to grade students “in terms of evaluating them, assessing them and giving them tests concerning their performances.”
Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Emmanuel Cummings, expressed his appreciation to PAHO for hosting the workshop. He said that “it is critical’ in light of the recent accreditation being granted, noting that “it also helps us to have a better engagement with our students.”
