A 20-year-old Lindener was crushed to death by a log that fell from a truck at a Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, lumberyard yesterday.

The deceased man has been identified as Stephan Braithwaite, called ‘Grinch,’ 20, who was a labourer of Lot 100 Block 22, Wismar Squatting Area, Linden.

Police yesterday said Braithwaite, who was an employee of R.I Forest Products, Sawmill and Lumberyard, located at 26 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, was drawing fuel from a tank when the incident occurred.

Braithwaite was performing the task in order to service one of the trucks in the compound.

At the same time, investigations have revealed that the logs were being offloaded from a truck. While Braithwaite was extracting the fuel, a log rolled off the truck and pinned him to the ground.

Brathwaite suffered injuries to his abdomen.

His colleagues rushed to his aid upon hearing his scream for help after the log tumbled off the truck.

By the time the workers responded, Braithwaite had already been pinned. After his co-workers eventually managed to free him, he was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
