Recovered radio sets not property of police force

Radio devices found in two vehicles intercepted by the police during the course of the week are not linked to the Guyana Police Force, Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan said yesterday.

In a statement issued in response to a Kaieteur News report that the vehicles were found with police radio sets, Ramlakhan said while one of the devices is similar in appearance to those used by the Guyana Police Force, neither was the property of the force.

“Please be advised that indeed two radio sets were found… one of the devices is a base set similar in appearance to those used by the Guyana Police Force and the other a “talk about” which is not used by the police but rather in stores, businesses and construction sites, and accessible for sale over-the-counter,” he noted.

Ramlakhan also said that ranks from the police force’s Communication Branch thoroughly tested and analysed the radio sets and found that neither was programmed with the frequency and encryption that would allow it to intercept the police network.
