Cops searching for Houston man who allegedly beat wife with hammer

The police in ‘A’ Division are currently pursuing a 54-year-old man who allegedly dealt his reputed wife several lashes to her head with a hammer on Sunday evening at their Houston, East Bank Demerara.

Stabroek News was informed that the incident unfolded around 6pm while Kilowtie Persaud, 44 was asleep at her Lot 53 Houston, EBD house.

The suspect, Wayne Henry, 54, a food vendor of the said address escaped and is yet to be apprehended.

A police source said that several searches were conducted to locate Henry but ranks came up empty handed.

The incident occurred around 6pm on Sunday.

Stabroek News understand that the couple has been living together for about 25 years.

Residents in the area related to this newspaper that the suspect would often time return home intoxicated and he would assault Persaud.

Reports are that on Sunday afternoon, Persaud was at home sleeping when the suspect returned home under the influence and allegedly dealt her several lashes to her head with a hammer before escaping.

Persaud managed to raise an alarm and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corpora-tion where she remains a patient up to press time.
