Melissa Playter, the Plaisance mother of three who allegedly stabbed her common-law husband to death, is expected to be charged with murder.

Commander of ‘C’ Division Calvin Brutus told Stabroek News that the woman is expected to be arraigned at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court today.

Victor Roberts, 38, of Lot 41 Prince William Street, Plaisance, was stabbed to death during a domestic row on Sunday.

During the morning hours, the couple were engaged in a heated argument, during which the woman broke everything in their shop, located at the bottom flat of their home. As a result, Roberts went to the police station and filed a report.

Upon returning home, the argument between couple continued.  Shortly after, the man reportedly picked up a piece of a pipe and chased the woman, who was able to run behind a gate. She reportedly sustained a blow to the head.

As the two continued to scuffle, Roberts allegedly picked up a knife and attempted to attack his wife as she ran up the stairs. At some point, the woman reportedly got hold of the knife and stabbed Roberts in his chest, causing him to fall.

Roberts was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an ambulance. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The couple shared one child from their union.
