Cop battling for life after Herstelling crash

A Guyana Police Force sergeant is currently battling for his life at a city hospital after his motor car crashed into a parked lorry along the Herstelling Public Road, East Bank Demerara minutes before midnight on Sunday.

Injured is Sergeant Joseph Elton Ambrose, 42, a resident of Herstelling, EBD.

Ambrose who is stationed at the Alberttown Police Station was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Hospital.

He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where his condition is listed as critical.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan confirmed the accident which occurred around 11.45 pm on Sunday.

He said investigations revealed that Ambrose was driving motor car PMM 9099 north along the western carriageway of the Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of motor lorry GLL 5592.

At the time, the motor lorry was “properly parked”, the statement said.

Ambrose who is currently on annual leave was said to be heading home when tragedy struck.
