A cricket team comprising married men only showed a team of bachelors who was boss after defeating them by three wickets in the Lusignan Community Centre Cricket Club’s Annual Boxing Day showdown.

The tradition that has been going since 2012 saw the Bachelors batting first, posting 191 all out in their 25 overs with the Married Men racing to 197-7 in 23.2 overs after a mix up in the scorebooks resulted in the teams agreeing on 20 runs required from the last three overs.

Robin Williams and Chandrika Harripal began the Bachelor’s innings cautious, adding 23 until Harripal was dismissed for 20.

 Leon Chung and Sackiban Jagdeo were the principal scorers, contributing 18 and 21 respectively while Kamaldeen Mohammed, who was adjudicated best bowler for his 3-7 figures.

 Karamchand Persaud (15) and Kumar Bishundial (14) chipped in with some useful cameos.

 In the chase, Christopher Singh and Vishnu Ramjeet were in subliminal form, putting on 40 before Singh was bowled for 18 consisting of two sixes.

 Ramjeet carried on to smack six sixes and one four but missed out on a half century as he was bowled for 48.

 Robin Persaud also troubled the Bachelors team with a pulsating innings of 39 inclusive of three sixes and one four while Deosarran Krishna added 15 to see them cross the line with 10 balls to spare.

 During the presentation, the representative from the club congratulated the teams for carrying on a tradition that now stood with both teams winning the title and bragging rights three times while expressed his pleasure in seeing the support coming from the crowd, noting that there was no better way to close of the year.
