A century from former Guyana youth opener Robin Williams ensured Bachelors a four-wicket win over Married Men in the Lusignan Community Centre Cricket Club’s traditional Boxing Day T20 clash Thursday.

The tradition, which has been ongoing since 2012, saw last year’s winner, Married Men, winning the toss and opting to bat.

The Husbands posted 257 for eight from their allotted 20 overs. However, that was not enough as the Single Men raced to 261 for six in 17.5 overs.

Vishnu Ramjeet capitalized on the batting friendly pitch to hammer 10 sixes and three fours on his way to the top score of 106. He was supported by Gewan and Navin Persaud who made 51 and 43 respectively. Gewan Persaud’s innings featured four sixes and three fours while Navin Persaud blasted half a dozen sixes.

Sakichan Jhagdeo was the pick of the bowlers for the Single Men, taking 4 for 15 in just two overs while Azad Mohamed returned 2 for 16 in his two-over spell.

The chase was piloted by Williams, who clobbered an event record 21 sixes along with two fours on his way to a pulsating 143.

Williams virtually played the lone hand with Alex Sital and Roy Seebarran contributing 25 runs each with three and four sixes respectively.

Rajindra Naikbaran bagged two for 35 for Married Men.

The organisers hailed the day a success and said that the tradition will be continued in the festive season.
