Hetmyer, Rutherford, Paul snapped up at IPL auction

JAIPUR, India,  CMC – West Indies Twenty20 skipper Carlos Brathwaite was among the most expensive buys at the Indian Premier League auction here today, after being snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders for US$709 400.

The 30-year-old all-rounder was one of three West Indies players who attracted hefty prices with the left-handed pair of Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran both going for US$596 000.

Hetmyer, 21, will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore while the 23-year-old Pooran will play his trade for Kings XI Punjab.

All-rounder Sherfane Rutherford, 20, who is yet to play an international, was bought by Delhi Capitals – formerly Delhi Daredevils – for US$283 760 while speedster Oshane Thomas was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for US$157 000.

Another young Windies all-rounder Keemo Paul went to the Capitals for US$70 940.
